Lara was born in love with anything in vivid colour. From an early age she experimented with whatever cosmetics she could get her hands on, and that inner drive never rested until she began her studies for a local beauty Diploma at the MCAST Institute for Community Services.
Ongoing research into makeup artistry led to an interesting offshore role — earning her seaman's certification and a position as a medical skin-care therapist aboard the lush Cunard cruise ship Queen Victoria. This gave her a much deeper understanding of the physiological side of her work, and exposed her to a high-calibre, international audience and the professionalism that comes with the Cunard line.
Lara then took the leap and broadened her studies all the way to LA — Hollywood, the Mecca of the film industry. Her studies focused on the sculpting skill-set at the foundation of SFX and prosthetic makeup artistry, tailoring for every variation in facial and bone structure among actors. During her time at the LA Cinema Makeup School she received tuition from Joseph C. Pepe, creative director on Avatar (and also known for War of the Worlds and Fantastic Four).
Determination led her to further studies at the internationally renowned Joe Blasco Makeup School Hollywood (now relocated to Orlando), where she read for her masters in makeup artistry and advanced prosthetics with foam latex. During this time she received fieldwork consultations from Rob Burman and Barney Burman — known for their work on Star Trek, Terminator, The Ring, Jack the Reaper and Mission Impossible, among others.
In 2017, Lara ventured to Falmouth, England, to undertake a revamped prosthetics course at Neill Gorton's Prosthetics Studio, exploring newer technologies focused on film-production quality.
